Daniel Leon Hale of Winston-Salem, formerly of Rural Hall, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the V.A. Community Living Center in Salisbury, NC. He was born March 11, 1944 in Galax, VA to the late Sterling and Frances Hale. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth Teaster Hale of the home; one daughter, Allison Hale of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Bree and Rocky Cornell of Winston-Salem; two sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were four sisters and two brothers. Mr. Hale was a former member of Rural Hall Moravian Church in Rural Hall. He retired from the Forsyth County Tax Office and was a veteran proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Hale loved spending ""Daddy"" time with his daughter, Allison and his grandchildren, Abreah Cornell and Antonio Cornell, Jr. or as Papa called him, ""Rocky."" Being his pride and joy, he was known to them as their ""Papa."" He loved to travel in his RV with his wife. They traveled everywhere across the country and made many friends along the way. They spent their winters in Florida but he was always glad to get back to Forest Lake Thousand Trails in Advance, NC to be with his very special camping buddies. He loved them all and considered them his family. Mr. Hale also made several friends at the V.A. Community Living Center where he was a resident for the last three years.
