Daniel Sides

Mr. Daniel Clayton "Boone" Sides, 91, of Winston-Salem, husband, father, and loyal friend passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 at his home. He was born January 2, 1927 in Forsyth County to Linney A. Sides and Viola Clayton Sides.  Mr. Sides was an early member of Griffith Fire Department, courageously served his country during WWII in the United States Navy and was appointed to the World Peace Tour by President Truman. He worked for IMC Rainbow Fertilizer retiring after thirty years as a senior salesman. He was an active member of Friedberg Moravian Church where he was a choir member and very involved with Senior Friends. Boone was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years Mary Reich Sides and his brother Burton E. Sides. Surviving are his sons Dr. Ricky Sides and wife Kathleen of Winston-Salem, Randy Sides, AIA and wife Becky of Columbia, SC, and Maj. Robin Sides (chaplain) and wife Carlace Ann of Kernersville. He also has six grandchildren Shannon (Brian) Kvam of Columbia, SC, Beth (Billy) Hood of Surf City, NC, Christopher (Jill) Sides of Philadelphia, PA, Stephanie Chick of St. Petersburg, FL, Amy (John) Marler of Bridgeport, TX, and Kary (Michael) Church of Winston-Salem. He has eleven great-grandchildren Sides and Rebecca Ann Kvam, Odessa and Connor Hood, Max and Leo Sides, Eli, Taytum, and Stone Marler, and Nathan and Nova Church; sister Donna Long of Winston-Salem, sister-in-law Betty Reich of Winston-Salem, and numerous nieces and nephews. His family loved him and will miss him tremendously.  Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Friedberg Moravian Church by the Rev. James C. Newsome, Jr. Burial will follow in the church graveyard.
