Daniel Wallace

Mr. Daniel Reid Wallace, 82, of Winston-Salem passed away, Sunday, May 20th, 2018 at his home. On January 4th, 1936, Daniel was born in Tennessee to the late Dennis Robert and Mary McFarland Wallace. Daniel was one of two identical twins. While the twins had many things in common, Daniel was the one who craved adventure and found it after enlisting in the United States Navy, where he served in the Korean War. Daniel also served as a volunteer for the first Peace Corps group, developed under President John F. Kennedy. While traveling for the Peace Corps, he met his wife, Renza Wallace, who happened to share his birthday of January 4th. Daniel had a passion for teaching and taught for over 51 years in the public school system. What made Daniel the happiest in life was sitting on his front porch; reading and watching the birds pass by. However, above all, what Daniel loved most, was spending time with his family.
His two brothers, Wayne Wallace and twin, Donald Wallace, preceded Daniel in death. He is survived by his wife, Maria Renza Wallace of Winston-Salem; four children, Bert Wallace (Jackie) of Asheville, NC; Elena Wallace Sosa (Franklin) of Winston-Salem, NC; Troy Wallace (Melissa) of Raleigh, NC; and Elisa Wallace Coppede (Brett) of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren, Stella, Sophia, Keyshma, Omar and Bryan Sosa of Winston-Salem, NC, and Carmen Coppede of Charlotte, NC (who is still on the way); and younger sister, Eva Kazanjian of Clayton, NC.
Family will receive friends Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 9-10 AM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. A Memorial Mass will be held 11 AM on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Winston-Salem. After Mass, full military honors will be given at Parklawn Memorial Park, Winston-Salem.
