David Allen

Mr. David "Dave" Thomas Allen, 80, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2019 in Winston Salem, North Carolina after a long, trying battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born on March 2, 1939, to Merrill Thomas Allen and Maurine Chamberlain, and grew up in Pleasant Grove, Utah along with his sisters Kathleen (Nathan Adams) and Tyra (Larry Pate).  He attended Pleasant Grove High School, and BYU where he studied physics. He served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Johannesburg, South Africa. Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Louise Makin on October 6, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple. His work as a physicist and engineer took them many places, and gave them opportunities to make many friends. Together, they raised 6 children and worked to create a beautiful marriage. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou; children, Thomas (Monika), Robert (Kimberly), Sandra, Rebecca (Larry Bowers), Mark, and Daniel; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and his sisters. Dave was a kind and generous man who served all within his reach. He was a skilled woodworker and many were the recipients of his labor. He served faithfully for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout his life. He was always reaching out to serve his neighbors. He was an example to all of his family and friends of what a good man should be and do. To honor Dave, keep your family close and be patient and kind as he was. Do all that is in your power to serve your neighbors. Love and serve the Lord with all of your heart. He will be remembered fondly and missed by all. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 6685 Shallowford Rd, Lewisville, NC 27023, on Friday, March 29, 2019 from 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 11 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4260 Clinard Rd, Clemmons, NC 27012.  Donations may be made in Mr. Allen's memory to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Clemmons.
