David Steven Bates

Mr. David Steven Bates, 67, of Winston-Salem went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. He was born in Surry County on September 25, 1949 to Brady Paul and Vannie Beshears Bates. Mr. Bates was a decorated U.S. Army combat veteran serving in the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from Bates Textiles. He is survived by two step-daughters, Tarayan Alise Duncan and Stephanie Houston Earnest; two brothers, Paul Bates, Jr. and wife Loucille ""Mickey"", Thomas Bates; three nephews, Paul William Bates and wife Donna, Charles Edward Bates and wife Janice, Michael Todd Vestal; two nieces, Deborah Lynne Hollowell and husband Glenn, Tonya Bates Zeck and husband Ryan; his beloved dog, Jack. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Roy Foster officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Elkin. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
