David William Campbell

David William Campbell, 89, of Spartanburg, SC and Rural Hall, NC, passed away on August 23, 2016 at the VA Valor Hospice in Asheville, NC. Born in Ruby, SC on May 30, 1927, Mr. Campbell was the son of Mary and Jim Campbell. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. He worked many years as a diesel mechanic with the following trucking companies: Ingram, Kelly, Griggs, Hennis, Tri-State, and Spector. David could fix anything that had a motor in it. He enjoyed fishing, reading, helping others, fixing lawnmowers, watches, and cars. He loved going to car sales with Mr. Roy Hall, sitting on the front porch talking with Mr. Bill Calvert, and spending time with Mr. Howard ""Cujack"" Keith and his family when he lived in Spartanburg, SC. He loved his family, friends and enjoyed spending time with them telling stories. His loving smile, sweet personality, and positive attitude will always be remembered. David was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Ned, Andrew, and Jim; and three sisters: Emma Eddins, Betty McLaurin and Patricia Young. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Evelyn Eddins Campbell; daughter, Linda C. Royall (Edgar); granddaughter, Michelle Royall; also, several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 26, at Hayworth Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Preacher Eddie Brackett officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. His family would like to give a special thank you to the staff and team at the SICU, Valor Hospice and other doctors and nurses at the VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC that cared for David over the years and who made his final days very comfortable.
