David John Kempf, of Birmingham, passed away on March 25, 2026, at the age of 64. He was born on August 31, 1961, in Clawson, Michigan, to Wilma and Eugene Kempf.
David dedicated his life to his children, his work, and his community. He spent many years in management with several department stores, including Burlington Coat Factory, Rugged Warehouse, and Ollie’s Outlet. In his later years, he continued his strong work ethic as a school bus driver for Richmond and New Haven Community Schools, while also working as a dump truck driver for Michigan Asphalt Co.
Above all, David was a devoted father who was deeply involved in his children’s lives. Whether it was sports, Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, serving on the PTO board, acting as a club advisor, or volunteering at community events, he was always present and willing to lend a helping hand. His dedication and support left a lasting impact on everyone around him.
David lived in several places throughout his life, including Birmingham, Michigan, where he was raised; Kernersville, North Carolina, where he welcomed his children; Medina, Ohio; and Ray, Michigan, where he settled and built a life with his family.
Throughout the years, David faced many health challenges with strength and resilience, including kidney disease and a successful kidney transplant, of which he was a proud survivor. In May of 2025, he was diagnosed with colon cancer, a battle he faced with courage until his passing.
David will be remembered as hardworking, kind, and funny, leaving a lasting impression and bright memory on everyone he encountered.
He is survived by his two children, Brandon Michael Kempf, 28, and Alexandria Marie Kempf, 23, as well as his four sisters, Kathi, Michelle, Lori, and Dee, and many extended family members who loved him dearly.
David’s love, laughter, and unwavering support will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Mt Gur Cemetery.
