David Lee Lawson

Kernersville – David Lee Lawson, 82, surrounded by family he peacefully went to be with his lord and savior on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Kernersville Medical Center. He was born on October 21, 1943, in Forsyth County, NC to the late Samuel Lee and Edna Taylor Lawson.

David’s passion and love of his family, farming, tending to livestock, and running heavy equipment was undeniably what he lived for. Starting every day before the sun came up and working well past sunset. His determination and drive to accomplish whatever he set his mind to were unmatched.

Full of wit and humor, chances are you’ve either been the butt of one of his jokes or laughed right along with him. David had a way of making people smile, and once he got tickled, that laugh of his was enough to have everybody else laughing too. His smile seemed to always be there, and it was one of those things you would never forget.

David owned and operated Piney Hill Acres LCID landfill in Kernersville. His determination and drive to accomplish whatever he set his mind to were unmatched. That determination showed the most when opening the gates of the landfill in 1991, as a means for contractors and homeowners to bring yard waste and land clearing materials to be recycled into mulch, compost, topsoil and more.

David never had a customer that he didn’t like, showing everyone that came in the upmost respect. He would always make sure to speak to everyone that came in as if he had known them his entire life.

The measure of a man’s life isn’t just in the work he leaves behind, but in the people whose lives he touched. David leaves behind a lifetime of memories and stories that will be told for many years to come. His legacy will hold a place in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to know him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Lawson.

Those left to cherish David’s memory are his loving wife of 55 years, Betty Lawson; sons, Ricky Lee Lawson, and Bobby Lee Lawson (Ashley Kennedy); grandchildren, Mallory Lee Lawson, Eric Lee Lawson, and Greenleigh Taylor Kennedy; and sisters, Linda Myers, and Debra Whitley (Jimmy Whitley).
