David Dalton Long, 71, passed away on December 3, sitting at his kitchen table after a courageous battle with Muscular Dystrophy for many years. David never complained despite his affliction, always greeting everyone with a smile and kind word. After caring for his mother with memory loss and health problems, he remained independent and self-sufficient.
David was born October 17, 1954, to Homer Lee Long and Edna (Woody) Atkins Long. He is survived by two loving sons, Shane Long and David Long Jr. (Susan); two grandsons, Ethan and Noah; and many loved cousins from the Atkins and Long family. David loved going to the shooting range with cousin, Guy Ted Miller, and enjoyed working on guns. He was a tradesman with talents in fabrication and welding. David knew the Lord and, in his last years, transformed from restless to peaceful, and from bitter to forgiving. His favorite scriptures were found in the book of Revelation.
Memorials can be made in his honor to the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Mount Carmel Global Methodist Church fellowship hall December 21, from 2-4 to share memories.
