David Anthony Ryggs, Sr.

Mr. David Anthony Ryggs, Sr., 88, passed away Monday, December 12, 2016.
David was born April 14, 1928 in Forsyth County to Earl Nordon Ryggs and Edna Stair Ryggs. He retired from R.J. Reynolds after 38 years of service as a box machine operator. A 70-year veteran with the Scouts, he was Scout Master of Troop 703 at his church, Arcadia United Methodist Church and active in The Old Hickory Council. He was a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow and well as a recipient of The Silver Beaver Award. David's passion in life was his time with the Boy Scouts and spending time in the outdoors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Nordon Ryggs, Jr.
David is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Woosley Ryggs; daughter, Cynthia Pierce and husband Rickey; son, David Anthony Ryggs, Jr. and wife Brenda; 7 grandchildren, Mildred, Jackie, David III, Laura, Jessica, Matthew, and Ashley; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service for David will be held Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 11 am at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 6 - 8 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
