Mr. David James Vander Lugt, 71, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018 at his home. He was born in San Bernardino County, California on November 3, 1947 to Herbert Ray Vander Lugt and Martha Nevella Vander Lugt. Dave was an adventurous soul who believed anything was possible, who traveled the world and touched many lives in the process. He grew up working hard in the family citrus grove. After graduating from College of the Sequoias in Visalia, CA, he served in the Air Force Reserves and Air National Guard as a flight engineer. He was in sales for many years before discovering his passion for starting airlines, which included a passenger airline in California in 1995 and a cargo airline in Dubai in 2004. His greatest joy, however, was helping people, and he was well known for his servant’s heart both as a deacon at New Hope Presbyterian Church and as a member of the West Meadows HOA. His strong faith through trials was a testimony to all who knew him. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Taylor. Surviving family includes his wife, Nancy Vander Lugt; daughters, Kristen Blakley and husband, Marcus, and Tamara Vander Lugt; granddaughter, Emma Blakley and much anticipated grandson, Wyatt David Ray Blakley; sister, Sharon Gayden; and many well-loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Clemmons with Rev. John Lindsay and Rev. Gerald Chrisco officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
