David "Wayne" Gordon

Mr. David “Wayne” Gordon, 82, went home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2023.

Wayne, or “Pop” to many, was born January 22, 1941, in Forsyth County to the late William “Avery” Gordon and Ruby “Grace” Smith Gordon.

Wayne was a member of Vernon Forest Baptist Church and retired from Chesapeake and Sonoco CorrFlex as a maintenance supervisor after 35 plus years of service. He served in the fire department for well over 20 years, contributing in many ways. He helped co-found the Gumtree Volunteer Fire Department and served in the Belews Creek VFD for many years. Wayne also served several years as a reserve police officer for the WSPD.

Pop enjoyed fishing at the coast, spending time with his family, riding his John Deere Tractor and serving at his church. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Judy Craig; and great-grandson, Elijah Wyatt.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Frances Bean Gordon; his sister, Rebecca Hartman; sons, Billy Gordon, Mark Gordon and David Gordon, Jr.; and stepsons, Bobby Sealey (Shannon) and Donald Sealey (Christine). Also surviving are his grandchildren, Ginger Bennett (Bernie), Dana Sealey, Brittany Smith (Zach), Bobby Ray Sealey, Jr. (Meghan), Taylor Anders, and Sarah Sealey; great-grandchildren Tyler Wyatt, Liam French, Eva French, Asa French, Walker Smith, Ellie Grace Sealey, and Ada Mae Sealey; and nephews, William Mobley and Thomas Craig (Darcey).

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Pastor James Brown officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, Attn: Finance, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC, 27103.
