Delmer Ray Cook

Mr. Delmer Ray Cook, 86, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born on July 2, 1939, in Stokes County the son of the late Ed Rufus Cook and Alice Inez Lynch Cook. Delmer retired from Surry Yadkin Electric with 30 years of service. Delmer Ray lovingly known as “Smiley,” “Dynamite,” or “Cook” to those closest to him, truly lived life to the fullest. He was a strong and devoted father, always present to love and support his children through every moment. While he was an incredible dad, the true light of his world was his grandchildren. He cherished being part of their lives, whether sharing a meal, celebrating special occasions, or cheering them on at nearly every sporting event. To him, they were perfect in every way. Delmer Ray attended Fairview United Methodist Church, now Fairview Church of Shoals, where he worshiped the majority of his life alongside his beloved wife, Linda. He had a heart for helping others. Most mornings, you could find Delmer Ray at Aunt Bea’s, surrounded by friends, laughing, telling jokes, and catching up on the latest small-town news. Those mornings were a highlight for him, and we want to thank his many friends for making that time so special. In the afternoons, you might spot him cruising around in his green Jeep, stopping for a hot dog or a cone of ice cream—always convinced that a little treat never hurt anyone as long as the portions were small. Remembering Delmer Ray will always bring a smile, because his life was a beautiful reflection of joy, love, and laughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Fulk Cook and a brother, Sandy Cook. He is survived by his daughter, Alisha Hutchens (Tim) of Shoals; his son, Rodney Cook (Candy) of Pilot Mountain; his four grandchildren, Grace Cook, MaryBeth Cook, Bella Hutchens and Jon Hutchens; one sister, Sarah Anderson (Kent) of Westfield; one brother, Billy Cook (Nancy) of Pilot Mountain; a sister-in-law, Nancy Cook; and several nieces, nephews and extended family. Delmer is also survived by a special friend, Stephen Parrish, who he worked together with for the past 18 years. A brief graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Fairview Church Cemetery in Shoals with Rev. Ricky Rogers officiating. A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. following the graveside service at Nana-Mac Meadows. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to: Derrick L. Davis Cancer Center.
