Dewitt Walker

Winston-Salem-Mr. Dewitt "Gene" Eugene Walker, 86, passed away Thursday, December21, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born March 8, 1931 in Forsyth County, the son of Dewitt Talmadge and Blissie Walker Walker. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church having served as the Chairman of Trustees and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. A graduate of Mineral Springs High School and Clemson University, he was a retired real estate agent. Gene was an accomplished historian, an avid reader, an avid walker and enjoyed golf, woodworking and gardening. He was a friendly, kind and thoughtful person who for 33 years took care of his mother. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 46 years, Josephine Couch Walker and a brother, Jim Walker. Survivors include his brothers, Archie Walker of Winston-Salem and Wayne Walker and wife, Martha of Winston Salem; two special nieces, Alisa Walker Rothrock of Winston-Salem and Susan Walker Cook and husband, Tim of Clemmons; two special nephews, Brian Walker and wife, Rachael of Mebane and Brent Walker and wife, Jenni of Clemmons and many other nieces, nephews and friends. A Celebration of Gene's life will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Dr. David Marcus, Jr. and the Rev. Dr. Neil Routh officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kate B.
