Dianne Shugart Todd

Dianne Shugart Todd, 80, passed away unexpectedly at her home on September 6, 2025. She was born on August 14, 1945, to Margaret Huff Shugart and Grover Franklin Shugart, Sr. in Forsyth County. Known affectionately as "Mimi" by family and friends alike, she had a way of making everyone feel like family.

She was a woman who filled every room with warmth and every table with love. Known for her exceptional cooking—especially her desserts that became the centerpiece of cherished family gatherings—she had a gift for bringing people together around big, joyful meals that created lasting memories.

For 55 years, she and her beloved husband, Bill, were true partners in every sense of the word. They did everything together—worshiping at Home Moravian Church, shopping, cooking, and traveling to create countless memories. She was utterly devoted to him, remaining faithfully by his side and caring for him with tender love until his passing in 2018. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and companionship.

Her love for family knew no bounds. Whether she was exploring the mountains of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge or creating magical memories at Disney World, framed pictures of her beloved grandchildren accompanied her on every journey, finding a place of honor in every hotel room. From the moment each grandchild was born until her passing, she was their devoted caregiver and cheerleader, often sending cards and gifts to keep that loving connection strong even when distance separated them.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures. Home Goods and Dillard's (where she worked for a time) were favorite treasure-hunting destinations, and she was always carefully selecting the perfect gifts for those she loved. At her regular restaurants, everyone knew "Mimi" and welcomed her warmly. She loved gathering with family on the back patio, surrounded by flowers and birds, music and conversation. A passionate sports fan, she cheered enthusiastically for her favorite teams—the Atlanta Braves, Carolina Tar Heels, and Carolina Panthers. Her home transformed with the seasons, beautifully decorated for every holiday, with Christmas holding a special magic that reflected her generous spirit.

Music flowed through her naturally as she played piano by ear, with "When We All Get to Heaven" being a particular favorite that seemed to capture her faithful heart. She was always in motion, always planning the next celebration, the next family gathering, the next way to show her love—a woman who never sat still for long because there was always more love to give and more joy to create.

Dianne was preceded in death by her husband, William Todd; parents, Grover and Margaret Shugart; brother, Grover Shugart, Jr.; Sister, Sharon Cloud. Surviving are her daughters, Annette Nichols (Todd), and Patrice Reaves (Rick); Grandchildren, Anna Nichols, Will Reaves, Ashley Speirs (Jordan), Christina Diamond (Matt); Great-grandchildren, Reagan and Hunter; many nieces and nephews, along with their families. A funeral service will be held at Home Moravian Church at 10am on Thursday, September 11th. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm, Wednesday, September 10th, at Hayworth-Miller, Silas Creek. In keeping with her love of beautiful flowers, floral arrangements are warmly welcomed.
