Don Burton Johnson

Kernersville – Mr. Don Burton Johnson aka “Dewberry”, 100, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2024, at his residence. He was born on May 21, 1924, in Forsyth County to Ash and Eva Beeson Johnson. For work, Don was employed with Bahnson Company from 1945 until 1950 and then Piedmont Airlines from 1950 until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Pine Grove Methodist Church for 80 years. Don loved beagles and he would breed, raise, and train them. He would also take them to field trails. He had a kennel that was called Valley Run. Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by two children, Irene Angela Bradfield and Don Daniel Johnson and seven brothers, Ben, Van, Joe, Thad, Paul, Guy, and Gene Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 80 years, Melrose Ingram Johnson; five children, Janice Hume (husband, Nick), Keala “Mitzi” Vai Noel, Elaine Crummett (husband, Bill), Eva Knutson (husband, Dave), and Art Johnson (wife, Wendi); 12 grandchildren, Korrin, Tyler, Monica, Aaron, Cameron, Kristen, Caroline, Brandon, Brianna, Nathaniel, Jacob, and Nigel; 11 great grandchildren, Kaden, Andy, Ellie, Junius, Charles, Noble, Madelynn, Reagen, Isaiah, Una, and Quinn; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Don will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Pine Grove Methodist Church. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pine Grove Methodist Church disaster relief fund at 1018 Piney Grove Road, Kernersville NC 27284. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
