Donald Richard Bare

Mr. Donald Richard Bare, 83, of Winston-Salem passed away February 17, 2014. Donald was born September 11, 1930 in Ashe County to Carmie and Mamie Miller Bare. He was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest daughter, Starlene ""Star"" Lewis, one brother, Harold Bare and three sisters, Beatrice Slade, Helen Anderson and Ina Bauer. Surviving are brother, Rudd Bare of Jefferson, and sisters Betty Louise Miller of Glendale Springs and Lucy Bogunovich of Leadville, CO. Also surviving is his wife of 63 years, Wanda Sue Miller Bare and daughter, Donna Lee Bare, both of Winston Salem, two sons, Donald ""Link"" Bare of Wilkesboro and Jim Bare of Jefferson, 5 grandchildren, Danny Sturgill Jr. of West Jefferson, Casey K. Bare, Gavin Johnson, Eric and TJ, all of Illinois and one great granddaughter, Tempie Sue Sturgill. Donald traveled all throughout the United States and Canada for his work in underground construction. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. More recently, he started his days with breakfast at Duke's or K&W Cafeteria and spent most days out on the back deck basking in the sunshine and watching the birds and other outdoor life. Donald elected cremation and requested no formal memorial service and the family requests no flowers. To honor and celebrate his life, family and friends will gather on Thursday, February 20th for a private scattering of his ashes, memorial and prayer service. The family wishes to express many thanks to all the staff at Kindred Rehab, Silas Creek for the extraordinary care and kindness provided to Donald during his last few months of life. We didn't wish for our loved one's last days to be in a facility, but these wonderful people made a small room a comfortable home.
