Donald Lewis Carbonaro

Donald “Don” Lewis Carbonaro, 87, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home surrounded by family.

Mr. Carbonaro was born July 24, 1938, in The Bronx, New York, to Lewis Joseph Carbonaro and Emma Simmi Carbonaro. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, National Guard, and Air Force for a collective 23 years. Don also worked for the NYC Transit “MaBSTOA” for 25 years. After retiring and moving to North Carolina he continued working as a school bus driver for the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools for 15 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Zenaida Perez Carbonaro; his four children Augie Acevedo (Roger), Shirley Buontempo (Anthony), Dean Carbonaro (Kim); and Donna Cope (Marshall); and six grandchildren, Cassandra Buontempo, Alexa Bicknese (Stefano), Gina Brescia (Frank), Amanda Pratico (Nathan), Tristin Cope, and Hart Cope; and one great-grandson, Beau Alexander Bicknese.

A beloved husband, grandfather (Nonno), brother-in-law, and uncle to the Perez family he leaves a loving legacy with his 39 nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A funeral service will be held 12:45 PM Friday, June 19, 2026, at Salem Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Clinard officiating. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6-8PM Thursday, June 18, 2026, and 12:00 PM Friday, June 19, 2026, at Salem Baptist Church prior to funeral service.
