KERNERSVILLE – Donald Gray Gibbons, 87, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Hospice Home of High Point. Don was born on July 2, 1938 in Forsyth County, NC to Willie and Trudy Tilley Gibbons. Don retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. Don was also known for his fondness of sweets – cakes, cookies, and ice cream – with banana splits being his favorite. His wife, Betty, always made sure there were plenty of treats at every family gathering.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Bodenhamer Gibbons; five sisters, Bulah Gibbons, Nellie Miller, Betty Weavil, Sue Smith, and Jean Gupton; and two brothers, Elbert and Ronald Gibbons.

Surviving are his son, Randy Gibbons (Deborah); a daughter, Lisa Crotts (Dwight); five grandchildren, Chelsea Cline (Matthew), Molly Jackson (Joshua), Maddy Gaudet de Lestard (Peyton), Erin Fordham (James), and Carrie Gallo (Nicholas); and five great grandchildren, Leighton and Hayes Cline, and Rowan-Kate, Callan and Noa Fordham.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. John G Rights officiating. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
