Mr. Donald "Don" Junious Spencer, Jr., 77, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, entered into the presence of the Lord, whole and healed, on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Don was born on May 25, 1948, in Gaston County, North Carolina, to the late Donald Junious Spencer, Sr. and Alice Dezaree Harmon Spencer. He graduated from Parkland High School in 1966 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After earning a business degree from Forsyth Technical College, Don devoted many years to the grocery industry, working as a manager for Food Fair.
Don was a devoted sports fan, faithfully cheering on Wake Forest University athletics and rooting for the Atlanta Braves throughout his life. More than anything, however, his love for Jesus was evident to all who knew him. Don had a remarkable gift for connecting with people, making everyone feel seen, valued, and genuinely loved.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife and the love of his life, Vickie Lynn Spencer; his daughter, Melissa Alice Spencer (fiancé, Michael Liner); and his beloved grandsons, Jeffrey (Zoe), Spencer (Toni), Bryson, and Kadyn Payton. Don spoke often and proudly of his grandsons and was a constant source of encouragement to them.
He was the oldest of five brothers and took great pride in each of them: Lewis Spencer of Winston-Salem; Randy Spencer of Charlotte; David (Melanie) Spencer of Weaverville; and Scott (Donna) Spencer of Charlotte. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers and friends who brought Don joy and laughter and who lovingly indulged him in his fondness for sweet treats, barbecue, and a good steak. Don loved each of you deeply.
One of Don’s favorite Scriptures was Romans 8:38–39: “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life…, shall be able to separate us from the love of God.”
A graveside service will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 11:00AM with Chaplain Mark Brown officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veterans Helping Veterans Heal, 3614 Glen Ave NE, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
