Mr. Donald Alfred Walker, 87, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation. He was born May 2, 1926 in Forsyth County to the late Thomas and Dora Walker. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in Italy and Switzerland. Mr. Walker was a member of Crews United Methodist Church and retired from Western Electric. He owned Don's Body Shop and enjoyed rebuilding cars. He also enjoyed spending time at his lake house and traveling. In addition to his parents, Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Turner Walker. Surviving are two daughters: Bonnie Flynn and Debbie Canter (Terry); four grandchildren: Scot (Patricia), Gary (Suzanne), Lee (Natasha) and Tommy (Gary); fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two siblings, Melba Beeson of Kernersville and Bill Walker (Jo) of Winston-Salem; brother-in-law, Claude Turner; three special family friends; Denise Deems, China Moore, and Vetta Holly; and also, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. A funeral service will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Crews United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Camp and the Rev. Brandon Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 pm Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Crews United Methodist Church General Fund, 4150 Reidsville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
