Mrs. Dora Imogene Stanley Adkins, 87, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2015, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Imogene was born on December 3, 1927, in Myra, WV to Hiram Simon and Mary Nelson Stanley. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church for 22 years where she was a faithful member of the Heritage Sunday School Class and an active member of the D.M.A. Group. She and her husband opened their home to nearly 285 foster children. In addition to her parents, Imogene was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim Adkins; an infant son, Gary; two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by one daughter, Beldina Brown and husband Terry of Winston-Salem; three sons, Mike Adkins and wife Sandy of Winston-Salem, Pastor Dan Adkins and wife Ruth of Shinnston, WV; and Marc Adkins of the home; a special foster son, Keith Knowlton; one very special sister, Janice Adkins of Hamlin, WV; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Bush officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
