Doris Bowen Hill

Mrs. Doris Bowen Hill, 80, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at her home in King. She was born on October 12, 1945, in Forsyth County to the late Rass Odell Lawson and Willie Kate Campbell Lawson. Doris was an active member of Chestnut Grove Church in King for 40+ years. She served the church in many ways, including as Chairman of the Administrative Board of Trustees, as a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the choir. Doris was a devoted nurse, who retired from Baptist Hospital as a case manager. She also worked as the Director of Nursing at Forsyth Hospital. Doris was a consultant for Group Homes of Surry and was the Director of Stokes County Mental Health Center. In her free time, she enjoyed water aerobics at the YMCA, crossword puzzles, reading, and creating stained glass. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Parker, one brother, Steve Lawson, a brother-in-law, Richard Tamer, and two husbands, Glen Bowen and Kenny Hill. She is survived by two sons, Gerald “Jerry” Parker, Jr. (Carol) and Glenn Parker (Gretchen), two grandchildren, Michael Parker (Lauren), and Declan Parker, two siblings, Tina Tamer and David Lawson (Faye), many nieces and nephews, and companion Roy Edwards. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel, with Rev. Jonathan “T.J.” Tamer and Rev. Jeremy Tamer officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Chestnut Grove Church Cemetery in King, NC.
