Doris Marie Smith McDaniel, 96, a resident of Winston-Salem, passed away on April 8, 2025. She was born on April 8, 1929 to the late Clyde and Annie Smith in Haggerstown, Maryland. She worked for the school system for many years where she was a bus driver and a cook in the cafeteria. She was loved by her students for the delicious meals she made. Outside of her work, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting, making ceramics, and quilting. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, tended to the nursery, and sang in a duet with her husband, Ralph. Doris was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend. She will be missed by all knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her eleven siblings, and two sons, Ralph “Curtis” McDaniel and Wayne G. Hinshaw.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ralph James McDaniel of the home; a son, David Hinshaw (Susan); two daughters-in-law, Ella McDaniel and Teresa Hinshaw; four grandchildren, Jonathan Hinshaw (Lovelyn), Wesley Hinshaw (Lisa), Christopher McDaniel (Brittany), and Angela Norman (Donnie); six great-grandchildren, Nicole Hinshaw, Addison McDaniel, Anisley McDaniel, Maverick McDaniel, Justin Norman, and Jacob Norman; and several nieces and nephews

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 2:00PM in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. There will not be a formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorials to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers who treated her like family and gave her the best of care.
