Mrs. Doris Ruth Allen Smith, 82, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025, at her home. She was born September 15, 1942, in Surry County, to the late Oliver Willie Allen and Susan Fulk Allen. Doris enjoyed working out in the yard, especially in her vegetable garden which she would can or freeze. She was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and played the piano. Doris retired from R.J Reynolds Tobacco Company with 12 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charlie Monroe Smith; and a brother, Harold. Doris is survived by two sons, David Smith (Jennifer), and Matthew Smith (Allison); three grandchildren, Samual Smith, Sadie Smith, and Aspen Smith; three brothers, Charles (Brenda), Billy (Jean), and Bobby (Pam); two sisters, Jane (Wayne), and Peggy (Richard); and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00PM on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Gardens of Memory Walkertown with Rev. Steve Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM to 12:00PM Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the three nurses Rachel, Girlie, and Emaleigh for the special care and love that they showed to Doris during her time of need.
