Mrs. Dorothy Stuart Galliher Canady, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 27, 1940, in Greensboro, NC, the daughter of the late William Thompson Galliher and Emily Sumner Galliher Tate. Mrs. Canady grew up in Reidsville, NC where she met and married the love of her life, Jerry Hunter Canady. She worked at Salem College as an administrative assistant in the dean’s office for many years. The world lost a precious lady and beautiful soul. She will be missed greatly by all who were fortunate to have known her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Hunter Canady; her sister, Mary Jean Galliher Somers; and her step-father, Edgar A. Tate.
She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Canady Fogle of Midway and Jean Marie Canady (Rebecca) of Kernersville; three grandchildren, Justin Hunter Fogle, Caleb Zachary Fogle (Jordan) and Hunter Miles Canady; a great-grandchild, Fields Wyatt Fogle; two special nieces, Dorothy Colleen Somers and Cathy Somers Hauser; a special caregiver, Hailey Pegram; and many other special friends.
A Celebration of Mrs. Canady’s Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with the Rev. Justin Fogle officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be conducted in Salisbury National Cemetery Columbarium, Salisbury, NC at a later date.
