Dorothy Belle Cole

Miss Dorothy Belle Cole, 93, completed her earthly journey and came into the presence of her Lord on Saturday, July 16, 2016. She was born on November 22, 1922 in Stokes County, the first child of Flora Belle Hall Cole and John Curtis Cole. She graduated from King High School and shortly thereafter moved to Winston-Salem, where she resided until her death. Dorothy joined the W.A.A.F. in 1944 and was stationed at Bolling Field Air Force Base in Washington, DC as an airplane dispatcher until her discharge in 1945. With the G.I. Bill, she was able to continue her education and graduated from Draughon's Business College with a Business Degree. She was employed by Wachovia Bank in their Insurance Department. Dorothy subsequently worked at Shore Real Estate and Smithdeal Co. in similar positions. She was a member of various Women's Insurance Associations, Local, State, and Regional. She received many honors for her service. She continuously updated her expertise in insurance with many short courses in Underwriting, while continuing to work full-time. After retirement, she worked several years at Sears. Dorothy was of the Moravian Faith and was a member of Calvary Moravian Church, where she served as a leader in Sunday School, the teaching ministry, and the Women's Fellowship. ""Aunt Dorothy"" loved to shower gifts on her ""grandkids"" and was exceedingly generous with her family, numerous acquaintances, and friends. She kept close ties with relatives in Stokes County, frequently visiting on Sundays and attending family functions. Dorothy was known for her unswerving loyalty and care of her family. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her step-mother, Irene Cole and her brothers: Thomas Graham, Joseph McWayne, and Jerry Lee Cole. She is survived by her sisters, Carole Cole Martin of Raleigh and Peggy Cole Winfrey of Mocksville; sister-in-law, Peggy Summey Cole; nieces and nephews: Randy Cole (Karen) of Raleigh, Michael Cole (Fonda) of San Francisco, Beth Poole (Scott) of Arkansas, Graham Cole of Charlotte, Reinhard Martin, Jeffrey Martin, and Marcus Martin (Deborah) all of Raleigh, Christine Martin of CA, Mary Campbell (Donnie) of Mocksville, David Winfrey of Gastonia, and Brittany Clark of Clemmons. A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 6, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Pastor Wallace Cole officiating. Inurnment will follow at Brims Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brims Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3509 NC Hwy 268, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 or to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
