Dorothy Dickerson

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Virginia Woosley Dickerson, 92, of Winston-Salem, died November 17, 2018.  She was born in Forsyth County to the late Walter Theodore Woosley and Elfleda Fulcher Woosley.  Dot graduated from Clemmons High School and Brevard Junior College.  On December 22, 1945, she married Robert Bruce Dickerson, who predeceased her on October 29, 2002.  Dot was a lifetime member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, where she was active and served in many capacities.  She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, Friendship Class, and Jonestown Senior Citizens and did volunteer work.  Dot worked for the Veterans Administration and the Social Security Administration, from where she retired.  In addition to her parents and husband, Dot was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Hilda (Buck) Williard and Iris (Don) Poplin.  Surviving are her daughter, Susan Lynn (Dr. William) Shamblin; one son, Robert Walter (Janira) Dickerson; three grandchildren, Moriah Shamblin, Lori Suess, and Jonathan Dickerson; four great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Alexander Suess and Murdock and Reagan Rose Dickerson; one brother, Thomas (Betty) Woosley; four sisters, Marilyn (Avalon) Potts, Norma (Cletus) Shelton, Patsy (Dewey) Bodenhamer, and Janet Royal; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  Special thanks to Susan Cain, Norma Shelton, and the staff at Trinity Elms Clemmons for their loving and compassionate care.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on November 20, 2018, at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Marilyn L. Weiler officiating.  There will be no stated visitation hours.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 1130 Jonestown Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.  Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family of Mrs. Dickerson.
