Dorothy "Dot" Marie Long

ASHEBORO – Dorothy “Dot” Marie Long, at age 91, has left this earth to meet her Lord and Savior, whom she loved with all her heart. She was born on April 20, 1932 in Guilford County to Maylon and Belle Andrews. 

Dorothy was a member of Mt. Calvary Independent Baptist Church in Asheboro for 19 years.

She was a loving and supportive wife to her late husband, Evg. John H. Long; a loving mother to six children: two preceded her in death, Catherine Delores, and Donna Joyce; and four surviving children are Sonya (Neil) Poole, Tim (Debbie) Long, Tammie (Ira) Mathena, and Karen (Tom) Holt.

Dot was a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren: Neil, Jr & Erica Poole, David & Janet Poole, Charity & Jason Auman, Kristen & Graham TreGurtha, Brooke & Stephen Wagoner, Dustin & Brittany, Terrah & Hank McGee, April & John Harding, and Spencer & Amber Holt; 23 great grandchildren, Gracie Poole (Mason West), Evy Poole (Josh Cheek), Harper Poole, Landon Poole (Chelsey Auman), Callie Poole, Jenna Harding, Maddie Harding, Nathan McGee (Sheridan Cosgriff), Haley McGee, Lindsey Auman, Lexi Auman, Josie Auman, McKenzie TreGurtha, Brendan TreGurtha, Aiden TreGurtha, Eli Wagoner, Noah Wagoner, Madeline Wagoner, Caroline Long, Natalie Long, John Long, Walker Holt and Kanaan Wagoner; one great-great grandchild, Clayton Cheek.

Also surviving are two sisters, Carol Robertson and Juanita Tillman.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Colfax with Pastor Neil Poole and Dr. Chuck Peters officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
