Dorothy Fesperman

Mrs. Dorothy Hicks Fesperman, of Winston-Salem, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 8, 2018. She was born in Forsyth County, January 8, 1927 to Sherman Roosevelt Hicks and Mildred Hepler Hicks. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem and attended school there. She left James A. Gray High School after the 11th grade to serve her country during WWII. She became a WAC, serving in a support group of the WAAC in Alabama. Upon discharge, she returned to Winston-Salem to complete her education at Draughn's Business College. In 1946 she married Marshall Fesperman and they shared 63 wonderful years together until his death in 2009. She began her career at Western Electric Co., which later became AT&T. She retired in 1981 with 35 years of loyal service. She was a member of Pinedale Christian Church where she sang in the choir for over 40 years. She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Wilson and husband Virgil; her son Gray Fersperman and wife Terri of California; grandchildren Donna Gentry, Todd Gentry, Sarah Fersperman and Matthew Fersperman; and great grandchild, Zoey Gentry. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Ruth Russell and brother Horace Hicks. A funeral service will be conducted at 12 Noon, Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Pinedale Christian Church with ministers Bill McKenzie and Matthew Sink officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
