Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Guy Long passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. Dot was born in Macon County, NC on May 22, 1927 to Thomas Furman Guy and Minnie Guy (nèe Morrison). From her mountain roots, Dot gained a survivor mentality, a strong work ethic, and a love of the outdoors. On August 18, 1956, she married her lifelong love, Cletus R. “Knotty” Long. Dot worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, retiring after thirty years of service. Both Dot and Knotty were active members of Advent Moravian Church until health challenges no longer permitted. Dot was preceded in death by her husband and three of her four siblings. She is survived by a brother, Bob Guy, and wife Kay, of Franklin, NC; a sister-in-law, Donna Long of Winston-Salem; a longtime friend, Ruth Ann Snyder Miller of Clemmons; two godchildren, D. Todd Miller of Greensboro, and Ashley Snyder Miller of Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 29, 2023, from 2:00 – 2:45pm at Advent Moravian Church, followed by the funeral service at 3:00pm, officiated by Rev. Dr. Tim Sapp. Burial will be in God’s Acre at the church. Memorials may be made to Advent Moravian Church, 1514 W. Clemmonsville Road, Winston-Salem, NC, 27127.
