Dorothy Mae ""Dot"" (Smith) Shermer Kiger, 82, of Winston-Salem, peacefully surrendered her soul to the Lord on January 13, 2017, after a fervent battle with breast cancer. Dorothy was born in Lexington, NC, on June 28, 1934, to Earnest Staniel and Ella Mae Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings; Virginia, Andrew, and Mary Jo Smith, a spouse, Benny Edward Shermer; one niece; and a special friend, ""Sis."" Surviving are a sister, Vazelle Portis (Walter) of Midway, two children, Jimmy Edward Shermer of Jonesville, and Karen Sue Shermer of Winston-Salem; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren, four nieces and one nephew. Dorothy dedicated her life to serving God, and others, as shown through her work for Hospice, as an in-home health aide. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 12:00PM - 2:00PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek, and would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Hospice and Bobbie - Leigh Brewer, for providing exceptional care as Dorothy prepared to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
