Dorothy Porter Moseley

Mrs. Dorothy Porter Moseley, 99, passed away peacefully at Brookdale Winston-Salem on Thursday, June 8, 2017. She was born in New Britain, CT, on June 1, 1918, to the late Albert Joseph Porter and Ruth Wells Porter. Dot attended Mount Holyoke of Hartford and graduated from Simmons College in 1940. She married John Franklin Moseley on October 14, 1944. Following the end of World War II, John and Dot lived in Augusta, GA, and Miami, FL, before moving to Connecticut in 1952 where they raised their two daughters in West Harford. They subsequently moved to Winston-Salem in 1987 where Dot was active at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Reynolda House Museum of American Art. Dot returned to Connecticut following John's death and lived at Chester Village West, a retirement community, for 19 years before moving back to North Carolina at age 95. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, John Moseley, and one sister, Ruth Porter Sperre of West Hartford, CT. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Tash (Gary) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Diane Noble (Kyle) of Biddeford, ME; four grandchildren, Ginny Tash Inscore (Brandon) of Greensboro, NC, Andrew Tash (Shay) of West Springfield, VA, Nicki Noble Bean (Adam) of Arundel, ME, and Amanda Noble of Quincy, MA; and six great-grandchildren. Dot was a gracious lady, who was organized and meticulous, a gentle spirit who never had a negative word about anyone. She was an expert seamstress and avid knitter. She loved to travel and was able to enjoy many national and international trips in her later years. Dot was very active in the Episcopal Church parishes wherever she lived. She was president of the Episcopal Church Women at St. James's in West Hartford and St. Paul's in Winston-Salem, and served on the Connecticut and national boards of the United Thank Offering. Dot was also involved in Girl Scouting in Connecticut, both as troop leader and a professional in public relations. Burial will be with generations of Moseley's dating back to the early 1800's in West Hoosick, NY. Memorials may be made to Simmons College, 300 Fenway, Boston, MA 02115; The Nature Conservancy, 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
