Dorothy Elizabeth Allen Smith

Mrs. Dorothy Allen Smith, age 89, of Walnut Cove went to be with her Lord and Savior, March 10, 2013 at Village Care of King. Mrs. Smith was born in Stokes County, May 13, 1923 to James Fleming and Dora Lee Boles Allen. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong member of Palmyra United Methodist Church in Germanton where she participated in the choir, UMW, taught Sunday School and VBS. Mrs. Smith loved her Lord, her family, her church, and served them all well. She loved gardening, playing the piano and singing. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Thomas Smith; one son, Allen Smith and two sisters: Harriet Allen and Una Chapman. Mrs. Smith is survived by three daughters: Harriet Sizemore of Walnut Cove, Starr (Steve) Wood of Pfafftown and Rose Ann Throckmorton of Germanton. Two sons: Lawrence (Ruth) Smith of Germanton and Nathan Smith of Danbury. Five grandchildren: Allyson Wood, Joshua (Cindy) Wood, Chase Sizemore, Nicole (Bryan) Spencer and James Smith. Five Great-grandchildren: Cheyenne, Travis, Ember, Bryant, Alexis and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Palmyra United Methodist Church in Germanton by Rev. Tim Nelson and Dr. Steve Wood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall, Tuesday evening March 12th from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
