Dr. Brice, Jr.

Dr. Robert S. Brice, Jr., 85, of Winston-Salem passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at his home. Bob was born June 17, 1932 in Spartanburg, SC, the son of the late Robert Samuel and Miriam Graham Brice. Dr. Brice was a graduate of The Bolles School in Jacksonville, FL in 1950. He served in the US Army as a Medic during the Korean War which inspired him to pursue a career in medicine at Duke University where he received his Bachelor's in 1956 and his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1960. Following his graduation he moved to Winston-Salem where he began his private practice in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He practiced at Medical Park Hospital, Forsyth Memorial Hospital and later completed his career at the VA Medical Clinic. During his time at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, he served as President of the Medical and Dental Staff and on the Board of Trustees. Bob enjoyed golf and spending time at High Meadows Country Club at Roaring Gap. He also loved nature and spent many hours gardening. Survivors include his wife, Shelby Murphy Brice of the home; four sons, Graham Brice and wife, Mollie of Wilmington, Greg Brice and wife, Susan of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Mark Dozier and wife, Claudia of Nashville, TN and Douglas Dozier of Charlotte; seven grandchildren, Emily and Vance Brice, Jake and Whitfield Brice and Lance, Luke and Lydia Dozier; and one brother, Harry Graham Brice and wife, Elaine of Sacramento, CA; and cousin, Walter M. Brice and wife, Dolores of Spartanburg, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, October 2, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Community Care Center, 2135 New Walkertown Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 (cccforsyth.org) where Bob volunteered his medical services.
