Dr. James “Jim” David May, 89, of Winston-Salem, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. Jim was born November 6, 1936, in Liverpool, England to the late Alfred and Eileen May. He served in the Royal Air Force for 3 years, and then he worked in business until he felt the call of God leading him into Christian ministry. Jim attended Spurgeon’s Seminary in London for 4 years. He was pastor of a Baptist church in Scotland and 3 Baptist churches in the triad area. He became an American citizen in 1995. Dr. May gained his Doctor of Ministry during his first pastorate in America. After 28 years in ministry, he retired in December 2001. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Apthomas. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Gibson May; two daughters, Karen Konicek (John) and Helen Hollifield (Kirk); two stepsons, Gordon Campbell (Kim) and Les Campbell (Carol); 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Jim was an outstanding husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Grace Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 11:00am with Pastor Jim Bush and Pastor Cletis Titus officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, 718 N. Trade St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or Grace Baptist Church, 3305 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Dr. May.
