Dr. Minick

Dr. Russell Clark Minick, 95 of Winston-Salem, NC and Leesburg, FL passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018. He was born on March 16, 1923 in New Castle, PA, to Florence Clarke Minick and Edgar J. Minick. Preceded in death by parents, and brother, Dr. James E. Minick. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; three sons, Daniel Minick (Louisa) of Meadville, PA, Robert Minick (Melvalee) of Durham, NC, and David Shaffer (Colleen) of Advance, NC; two daughters, Heidi Minick Starke (David) of Chesterland, Ohio, and Kelly Minick Lichtenhan (Scott) of Lewisville, NC; nine grandchildren, William, Ryan (Rachel), Michael (Sarah), Jonathan (Carrie), Andrew, Chelsea, Shelby, Hannah, and Rebecca; five great-grandchildren, Amelia, Linus, Jackson, Matthew, and Emaruth; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. John and Jean Menser, and sister-in-law, Kay Minick, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of New Castle High School in New Castle, PA, Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, and Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army in WWII. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner, and member of local Elks Lodge #449. After graduating from medical school, he served as a physician in the U.S. Army until 1949. He then went into private practice as a Family Physician in Pennsylvania and then North Carolina until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed retirement living in Florida and North Carolina, spending time with family and friends, and many hobbies, including playing Bridge, of which he was a Life Master. He also enjoyed traveling and was an avid sports fan. He was a long-time member of Lutheran Church of the Epiphany in Winston-Salem, NC. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Lutheran Church of the Epiphany with Rev. Russell Peek officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, 5220 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
