Dr. Mountjoy

Dr. John Robert Mountjoy, 78, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 14, 1939 in St. Louis, MO to Dr. Philip and Anne Weir Mountjoy. Dr. Mountjoy graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and the George Washington University Medical School where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, medical honorary. He served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. He practiced ENT in Winston-Salem for over 30 years and enjoyed every day of his professional life. His leisure time was spent building furniture, being a photographer, building and flying radio control airplanes and fly fishing in mountain streams. Dr. Mountjoy was a nature and dog lover and valued the environment. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany where many of his woodworking creations can be found. He leaves a legacy of love, caring and laughter which was contagious. He loved his family, who will miss him beyond words. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Judith Fisher Mountjoy; two daughters, Keira Coverdale (Tate) of Rosenheim, Germany and Jennifer Motz (Gregg) of Hendersonville, TN and his grandchildren, Sam and Katie Coverdale and Andy and Jake Motz. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany with Pastor Doug Kearney officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday and after the service in the church fellowship hall. The family wishes to thank the staff on the Oncology floor at Forsyth Medical Center where he was treated with dignity, care and compassion during his brief illness.
