Duke Peddycord

Duke Clifton Peddycord, 77, lovingly known as “Pappoo,” of Germanton, got the call to his heavenly home on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Trellis Hospice Home after an extended illness. Duke was born April 13, 1941 to the late Henley and Alva Peddycord in Winston-Salem. He graduated from Walkertown School where he was voted “Most Dependable” and drove a school bus. After high school, he moved to Washington, D.C. and attended the American University and worked at Riggs National Bank. He returned to N.C. and attended the American Institute of Banking in Charlotte. He retired from Goody’s Pharmaceuticals after 29 years, then worked for Modern Toyota until his health declined. Duke married his sweetheart, Joanne Thomas Peddycord of Kernersville on April 2, 1961 and enjoyed 57 wonderful years together. Duke was a faithful member of Woodland Baptist Church for 52 years and served as a deacon there for 47 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joanne of the home; two daughters, Lisa Denny (Dwight) and April Maynard; five grandchildren, Grayson Denny (Melissa), Whitney Davis, Gabrielle Maynard, Army SPC Mariah Killebrew (Jeremy) and Zoey Maynard; three great-granddaughters, Aubrey and Felicity Davis and Journey Denny; one sister, Sonya Sturgill (Dale); two brothers, Keith and Powell Peddycord; and a special family friend, Larry Cranfill. A service celebrating Duke’s life will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2019 at Woodland Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with Pastor Tim Gammons officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. A private committal service will be conducted at Rural Hall Memorial Park in Rural Hall. Memorials may be made in his honor to: Woodland Baptist Church Building Fund. The family would like to thank the staff of Walnut Cove Health and Rehabilitation, Forsyth Medical Center 8th floor Palliative Care Unit and Trellis Hospice Home for their tender, loving care of “Mr. Duke.”
