CRAWFORD - WINSTON-SALEM
Mrs. Earleen Crater Crawford passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born February 16, 1929 in Forsyth County to the late Fannie Mae Cooper Crater and George Earl Crater. Mrs. Crawford graduated from NC School for the Deaf in Morganton. She retired from the Winston-Salem Journal with 38 years of service. Mrs. Crawford was a founding member of the Deaf Ministry of Woodland Baptist Church, started by her niece, Nancy Ashley in 1961. She was instrumental in teaching children sign language and will always be remembered as a woman of humble dignity.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her sister: Frances Crater Gilbert; and her two brothers: Claude and Cooper Crater. She is survived by her husband of 62 years: Alvin Royce Crawford; two sons: Jimmy Crawford (Claudia) and Tim Crawford (Maria); three grandchildren: Drew Crawford (Brooke), Savannah C. Samuelson (KC), and Alicia Crawford; three great-grandchildren: Logan Drew, Cameron Blake, and Mason Royce Crawford; and also, several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 31 at Woodland Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Gammons officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 30 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
