Earlene Garner Bowers

Earlene Garner Bowers passed away due to heart disease on November 26, 2015. She was born in Winston-Salem on November 13, 1927 to Walter Craver Garner and Dora Belle Manuel Garner. Earlene Garner grew up in Yadkin County, NC and graduated from Boonville High School in 1946. She moved in that November to Winston-Salem to work full-time at Western Electric and part-time at Krispy Kreme. She met William Blaine Bowers (Sr) on April 1, 1948 and quickly dropped her part-time job to date him. They were married on December 4th, 1948. The love of her life passed away one week before their 55th wedding anniversary. Earlene Bowers attended church in Yadkin County while growing up and was a member of First United Church of Christ on Waughtown Street from after her marriage until her death. Mrs. Bowers is survived by her son, William Blaine Bowers Jr, and her daughter, Paige Bowers Winn, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law. Mrs. Bowers was pre-deceased in death by her husband, her parents and siblings, one grandson, and two nephews. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 29, 2015 at First United Church of Christ at 1912 Waughtown St, Winston-Salem, NC. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM at the church. Burial will follow the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Refreshments will be served at First United Church of Christ after the interment. Her pallbearers were her living nieces and nephews, each of whom was special to her. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Bowers requested that donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center or Senior Services, Inc.
