Eddie Lo-Tak Chan

Eddie Lo-Tak Chan, 71, of Clemmons, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Eddie was born on August 9, 1954, in Hong Kong, to the late Joseph Hai-Cheung Chan and Kam Fung Chan. He immigrated to the United States in the early 1980s, first settling in New York City before later building a home and family life in North Carolina. A hardworking and devoted man, Eddie was best known for his quiet strength, kindness, unwavering integrity, and faith in Jesus Christ.

He shared his life with his beloved wife, Magdalen K. Chan, and together they raised a family rooted in faith, love, and perseverance. Eddie was a proud father to Francis C. Chan, and a cherished grandfather to Jacob, Joshua, Francis Jr., and Faith, who brought him immense joy. He was also a devoted brother to Paul Chan, John Chan, Irene Chan, and Tommy Chan, and a beloved brother-in-law to Paul Kiu and Teresa Kiu. As a caring uncle and friend, his generosity and humility left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Eddie was a Master Tailor trained in Hong Kong, and in his early years in America he worked alongside top designers in New York City. Later, as the owner of Magdalen’s Tailoring in Winston-Salem, he quietly brought that same level of artistry and dedication to his community. Many in Winston-Salem came to recognize and appreciate his exceptional skill, though Eddie himself carried it with humility, always seeing his work as a way to serve others. Through his craft and his warm presence, he built deep roots in the Clemmons and Winston-Salem community, where he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. Beyond his professional life, Eddie’s humor, warmth, and dedication to his faith and church enriched the lives of those around him. As a long-time member of Winston Salem Chinese Church, he lived out his Christian values in the way he loved and served others. He will be remembered not only for his tireless work ethic, but also for the way his presence brought comfort and light to even the heaviest moments.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Magdalen K. Chan; his son, Francis C. Chan; and his grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Francis Jr., and Faith. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, whose kindness and tender care provided comfort and dignity in his final months. Now healed and whole, Eddie rests in the eternal presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—rejoicing in the peace and joy found only in Him. His life was a true testament to faith, love, and devotion, and his legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
