On August 24, 2016 Ed McLean passed away peacefully at his home
in Oxon Hill, MD surrounded by his family. Born in Gastonia, he was
the youngest of three children. He grew up in Winston-Salem,
attending Ardmore Moravian Church, and graduated from R.J. Reynolds
High School. Ed served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then
graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a
B.S. in Physics. He graduated from the University of Delaware with an
M.S. in Physics and then worked for the next 60 years as a research
physicist at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington D.C.
Ed is survived by his wife, Anna H. McLean; his daughter Susan
McLean, Marshall, MN; his daughter Sandra Jablonski, Annandale, VA;
his son William McLean, Oxon Hill, MD; his son Frederick McLean, Oak
Ridge, TN; his daughter Mary Anne, Cambridge, UK; his sister Julia
Brossman, Washington D.C.; and his grandchildren Alexander and Emily
McLean and Derek Jablonski. He is pre-deceased by his sister Mary
Smith, Shelby, N.C.
A graveside service will be held at Friedberg Moravian Church on
Friday, Sept. 2 at 10:30 a.m.
