Edgar Richard Sprouse

Edgar Richard Sprouse, 85, passed from earthly to heavenly life on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at his home in Clemmons, NC.

Edgar was born October 19,1939 in Charlottesville, VA.

Charlottesville is where Edgar’s love of aviation began. He learned to work on and fly airplanes there as a teen and flew his first solo flight at the age of 18. He decided to pursue mechanics instead of flying and retired from aviation after 40 years, including time at Piedmont Aviation, Piedmont Airlines and US Airways.

Edgar also served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years as he grew his aviation career.

During his retirement, Edgar enjoyed spending time with grandson Jack, woodworking, golfing, fishing and watching NASCAR races.

Edgar was known for his friendliness, storytelling, and willingness to help others, especially if building or fixing was involved.

Edgar was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Evans Sprouse; his parents, John and Thelma Sprouse; brother, Donnie Sprouse; and sister Grace Woody.

Edgar is survived by his daughter, Brenda Wright (Steve); stepson, Tim Plott (Tina); grandchildren, Savannah (Richie), Jack, Tyler, Gabriel; and great grandchildren, Carter and Lavender.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Winston Salem with burial following at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the dedicated caregivers from Always Best Care for their companionship and care and the Trellis Hospice team for their kindness and support during Edgar’s final journey.
