Mrs. Edith Marie Whitworth Cox, 81, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on January 26, 2024, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. Mrs. Cox was born one of eight children on September 9, 1942, in Forsyth County to the late Mr. John George Whitworth and Mrs. Maggie Jane Rhoades Whitworth. Edith was a long-time resident of Motor Road in Winston-Salem, she and her husband, Ivan, resided there for more than 30 years. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Edith was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church; she attended while her heath permitted. She loved church, participating in church activities, watching children, and making crafts. Mrs. Cox is survived by three sister-in-laws, Theresa Whitworth, Jeannine Whitworth, and Mary Whitworth; several nieces and nephews; including one special niece, Leanna Whitworth; and a cousin who she cherished dearly, Elizabeth Blythe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Douglas Cox; a son, Bobby Cox; five brothers; and two sisters. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 5, 2024, at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Ben Webb officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior in the Mausoleum Chapel. Hayworth-Miller is serving the family.
