Edith Sifford

Mrs. Edith Rawley Sifford passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at her residence with her family by her side. Edith was born in Forsyth County to the late Robert Pinkney Rawley and Bessie Hardy Rawley on February 7, 1931. Edith lived a life of love and service. She taught Art in the WSFCS system until she became a mother and dedicated herself to raising her daughters and making a loving and enriching home for her family. She lived a life of service, spending years volunteering on Tuesdays at Crisis Control, and served as a Girl Scout leader and in her church, garden club, candle league, and many other organizations. She and her husband enjoyed decades in a bridge club with many of their educator friends, as well as a dance club that met monthly. She was a wonderful loving grandmother and great-grandmother, which brought her so much joy, as did the cats she “mothered” over the years. After her husband retired, they enjoyed many years of traveling the United States and making trips to Sunset Beach. Her family was beyond blessed to have her for so many years, and they rest comfortably knowing that she is with her Lord in heaven, surrounded by incomprehensible beauty and so many loved ones.  Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a great grandson, Brody Read. She is survived by her husband, James Sifford Jr.; children, Beth James (Mike) and Marie Sifford; grandchildren, Teryl Read (Ryan), Rebecca Stonebraker (Gabe), Sarah James (Rosario) and Cailee James; great grandchildren, Caitlin, Bentley and Bishop Read, Evelyn Bradford; and dear sister, Ruth Suther. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Trinity Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jon Gaska officiating. A committal service will be held Monday at Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery, for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1416 Bolton St, Winston-Salem NC 27103. Online condolences may be sent to www.hayworth-miller.com.
