Edith Leola Maine West

Mrs. Edith Leola Maine West, 89, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Watauga Co. on September 6, 1927 the daughter of the late George Washington Main and Ethel Hatley Main. Mrs. West was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Rural Hall, where she was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for many different age groups. She was a member of the Rural Hall Home Extension Club. Mrs. West was a Stokes Co. teacher for 22 years and also taught in Community College education. She was an educator at heart, challenging herself by earning her Masters Degree in Education. Her family was her life and she will be missed deeply by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 55 years, Herbert Milton West; a son, George Milton West; two sisters, Janice Main and Janet Cannon; and a brother, Henry Main. She is survived by a daughter, Anne Matthews (Bill); a son, David West; three grandchildren, David B. West (Ashley), Shannon Ferguson (Brad) and Amanda Fuller (Jacob); four great-grandchildren, Olivia West, Emma West, Isabelle Ferguson and Sophia Ferguson; a special daughter-in-law, Lesa West and special family members, Larry and Patty Ferguson. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 3, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Keith McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. The family would like to send a special thanks to everyone at Forest Heights for all of the loving care shown to Mrs. West.
