Edna Strong Tucker, a resident of Carrington Place, Matthews, North Carolina, passed away December 22, 2013. She was the daughter of Annie Bernice Etheridge and John Fleet Strong. She was born September 23, 1920. She is survived by her son, Robert B. Tucker, Jr. of Charlotte and his wife, Lynn; grandson Robert B. Tucker, III and his wife, Sanna, of Weddington, NC; grandson Andrew D. Tucker and his wife, Lisa, of Charlotte; three great-grandchildren, Niklas, Emma and Kalmia; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert B. Tucker; her parents; and her brother Billy Glenn O'Neal. She was born and raised in the Reese-Jacksonville area of Texas, and spent her early years in the small community of Reese. She met the love of her life on a blind date when he was stationed at Barksdale Field, LA, in WWII. After the War she moved with Blain to Union Cross, NC, where she lived until after his death, but Texas was always in her blood. She was exceptionally intelligent but quiet, reserved and unpretentious. She worked at ""public work"" from time to time, but her primary occupation was fulfilling her role as wife and mother. Her contributions to her family-things like love and care-were more important than any financial contribution she could have made. She had a special relationship with her brother Billy, his wife Lucille and their children. In essence, she really just wanted to love and to be loved. She quietly but strongly loved her family, and we knew she did. And we loved her too. Very much. And she knew it, and we are so glad she did. As in the case of her deceased husband Blain, we will miss her physical embodiment, but she will never leave us. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Union Cross Moravian Church, 4295 High Point Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am at the Church by Pastor Don Griffin. Burial will follow immediately in the Church graveyard. Memorials may be directed to the Union Cross Moravian Church for its graveyard fund. The family is being served by Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
