Edward David Azevedo, 85, of Winston-Salem, went to God on June 25th, 2024.
Edward (My Ed), was born on August 5, 1938, in Bristol Massachusetts to John Perry Azevedo and Conceicao Viera Azevedo. Ed had a successful 48-year career as a stockbroker and investment advisor. His career began with the brokerage firm of Bache and Company in 1968. Ed never changed firms but stayed the course through multiple acquisitions. His stability, loyalty, and commitment to his clients was unwavering. Ed retired in 2017 from the firm, most recently known as Wells Fargo. Over the span of 48 years, Ed was recognized numerous times for his financial investment performance and was greatly loved and trusted by his clients.
Prior to Ed’s career in investment management, he worked as a cameraman for multiple south Florida broadcasting companies, including WLBW-TV now known as WPLG. A student of Electrical Engineering at DeVry Technical Institute, Ed worked on the Lawrence Welk and Jackie Gleason shows televised from Miami. In fact, one of the Lennon sisters asked him to take her to church. He was quick to let her know that his wife probably would not like that. In December of 1962, Ed stood approximately 15 feet from JFK and Jacqueline when he was a cameraman for the televised speech to the Cuban Invasion Brigade at the Orange Bowl. Dinner with Merv Griffin at Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami was another highlight of Edward’s career as a television cameraman. He was most proud to be recognized in the House Congressional Record for being part of the team of television engineers who “made it possible for the American people to see, for the first time, the actual reentry and ‘splashdown’ of one of our manned space vehicles.”
Ed’s love of sports and athleticism started at a young age as the captain of his high school basketball team and carried through to his days at the Robinhood Road Family YMCA. The mornings he spent there with his friends were a great source of his happiness and pride for many years. For most of his life, Ed was an avid tennis and chess player. He was true to the Boston Red Sox until the very last day.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, John and Conceicao Azevedo, his brothers John and Charles Azevedo, and his sisters, Mary Zier and Dorothy Saban. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years; Rosemary Meser Azevedo, his daughters Julie Musolino (Andrew) and Jeanne Doherty (Timothy), his grandchildren; Taylor and Connor Manion, Jack Doherty and Kate Doherty, his step-grandchildren; Tara and Drew Musolino and his sisters; Jane Avila and Marie Schubert.
A memorial service will be held at the Robinhood Road Family YMCA on August 9th @ 7:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Robinhood Road Family YMCA; 3474 Robinhood Road https://ymcanwnc.org/give/give-online, Winston Salem and to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem at https://www.trellissupport.org/content/ways-give.
