Edward Jerome Lane

Mr. Edward Jerome Lane, 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017. He was born in Burke County, NC on March 17, 1927, to the late Edward Leith and Flosta Crisp Lane. Mr. Lane graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville, NC. He attended Blanton's Business College, also in Asheville. Edward served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre from 1944 - 1946. Mr. Lane was employed with the U.S Government in the Veterans Administration. He worked in multiple VA Hospitals across several states, retiring in 1985 with 40 years of service. Edward was an active member of College Park Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and he was an avid golfer. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his sister, Olivia Lane Blair and a brother, John Donald Lane. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Cleo Balding Lane; a son, David Lane and wife, Susan; two sisters, Naomi Lane Ross and husband, Vince and Jean Lane; and many nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Mr. Lane's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 22, 2017, at College Park Baptist Church with Rev. Ramon Smith, Dr. Charles Edwards and Rev. Christa Warise officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Mr. Lane was a loving husband and father and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. The family requests no flowers but donations may be made in memory of Edward to the National Parkinson Foundation, 200 SE 1st St., Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131 or the charity of the donor's choice.
